Commonwealth Home Support Program

The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) is funded by the Australian Government and helps elderly persons access entry-level support services to live independently and safely at home.

If you are generally well and able to manage but just need some help with daily tasks to continue living at home, CHSP services may be right for you.

These services may also be suitable if you have had a setback and need support for a short period of time to help get back on your feet.

The aim of the program is to help older people live as independently as possible — with a focus on assisting you, rather than doing things for you. It is about building on your strengths and abilities to help you remain living independently at home in the community.

The services or activities we can help you with are:

  • Transport to appointments, shopping and other activities
  • Domestic home cleaning help
  • Personal care
  • Lawn maintenance
  • Assist with referral for home modifications
  • Assist with access to aids and equipment
  • Meals on wheels
  • Nursing care
  • Access and referral to allied health services
  • Social support
  • Community or day respite

The program is for people aged 65 years and over but 50 years and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
